The darkness pierces your soul
And yet satisfies the same.
In night the light shines truest
His love was only just a game.
To glimpse that island of truth and beauty
Perfect in its grasp of true joy despite pain.
But the journey's too long, too hard, too far;
Give up this quixotic quest, or it fades anyway.
You're hallucinating, and yes, we will overcome;
This little lamp holds all that's left of your sun.
Darling, wait, don't stop to settle just yet;
All your friends have fallen off to compromise, but you can make it till the end.
You are strong enough to see this through.
Don't give up searching for the island too.
When the creeping shadows call
May it be they'll fly away.
I still pray you won't yield the crown
This twilight hell will soon give way.
Don't turn aside in the midnight loss;
Don't be afraid to lose your heart.
The voices of the compromised wisp out like snares of the damned;
Don't be afraid to call them for what they are.
You're hallucinating, and yes, we will overcome;
This little lamp holds all that's left of your sun.
Darling, wait, don't stop to settle just yet;
All your friends have fallen off to compromise, but you can make it till the end.
You are strong enough to see this through.
Don't give up searching for the island too.
The island is only the promise of pain
And a mere gamble at the chance of truest joy.
But here with us you know is happiness;
Better settling and happy than a hell in the endless wait.
You have seen a vision, but don't trust that sight;
You have seen the sun too, but it's all a lie.
You have taken this lamp and of it a glorious thing made--
Well, if this is your reality, I'll take my mistake.
If these be hallucinations, I'll take them as such;
I'd rather my fantasy than your pathetic reality of a sun.
Hold me back, press me onward, let me fall and let done--
I'll be miserable eternal over your apathetic acceptance that this is all we can win.
I'll look for that island forever, take I a thousand wrong turns to so do--
Though all I see are your surrendered lamps, I will still believe in the sun.
A tragedy to haunt through the ages, to give up before the end;
To turn aside to happiness when joy was around that last bend.
If this is your damnation, a purgatory of seeking an eternal lost grail;
Then I'll search, and never give up the quest.
I'm seeking for that island.
